Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a free trial class?

Yes! New students are welcome to try a free class to meet the teacher, see how lessons run, and make sure physie is the right fit.

Do I need dance experience to join?

Not at all. Physie caters to all levels — from complete beginners to experienced dancers — with classes tailored to each age group and ability.

What should my child bring to class?

A drink bottle, hair tied back, and a positive attitude. All classes are done in bare feet.

What do I wear to class?

Juniors: No set uniform, though Magic Point merchandise is encouraged.
Seniors & Ladies: Leggings and a fitted t‑shirt or activewear top, or a Magic Point singlet. All classes are barefoot.

What happens in class?

Students learn dance and exercise routines, build fitness, and have fun. Classes usually begin with a warm‑up and include technique, syllabus choreography, and stamina work.

Can we start mid‑term?

Yes. New members can join anytime, with fees adjusted accordingly. Our teachers help new students settle in.

Can parents stay to watch?

Parents may watch younger classes from the back of the hall. As children grow more confident, we encourage independence.

When are classes held?

Class times vary by age group. Please see our Timetable page or contact us for current schedules.

Is physie suitable for boys?

Physie is traditionally female‑focused, but boys are welcome in our younger classes. Contact us to discuss suitability.

What if we miss a class?

No problem. While make‑up classes aren’t always available, students simply return the following week. Please let your teacher know if you’ll be away.

How much do lessons cost?

Classes start from $10. Term fees vary by age group and the number of weeks in the term. Visit our Fees page for details.

Are competitions mandatory?

No. Competitions are optional but offer a great confidence‑building experience in a supportive environment. More details are in your Welcome Pack.

What do I wear for competitions?

BJP rules apply. Competitors wear a BJP leotard or performance wear (tights and top), available through bjphysieshop.com.au  or Facebook Swap & Sell groups. Fishnet tights optional, no dance shoes. For girls under 13, there are restrictions (simple hair, simple make-up and no fake-tan).

How is my age group determined?

Your age group is based on your age as at 1 September. Your teacher can confirm your placement.

Am I a novice, intermediate, or open lady?

Your section depends on when you last competed in physie. Your teacher will guide you.

For more details, check your Welcome Pack.
